Bangladesh
Bangladesh is a small country located in South Asia, bordered by India to the north, east, and west, and Myanmar to the southeast. Despite its small size, Bangladesh is the eighth most populous country in the world, with a population of over 160 million people.
Road network
The country has a total road network of approximately 330,000 kilometers, with about 70% of the roads being paved. The paved roads include a few expressways, including the Dhaka-Chittagong Expressway, which is a four-lane toll road connecting the country’s two largest cities, and the Dhaka-Mymensingh Expressway, which is currently under construction.
In addition to the paved roads, Bangladesh also has a significant network of unpaved roads and 4×4 tracks, particularly in rural areas. These roads are often unpaved due to the high cost of construction and maintenance, as well as the frequent flooding and heavy monsoon rains that the country experiences.
Despite the challenges presented by its road network, Bangladesh has made significant strides in recent years to improve its transportation infrastructure. In addition to the expressways and other road projects, the country has also invested in upgrading its ports and airports, which has helped to facilitate trade and economic growth.
Overall, while Bangladesh still faces many challenges related to its road network and transportation infrastructure, the country’s government and people have demonstrated a commitment to continuing to improve and modernize their transportation systems to meet the needs of their growing population and economy.
